Join us on our quest to visit all 24 Indiana State Parks with time. On Tuesday, April 26 at 9:30 we will meet at the Rally Campground parking lot inside the park.  Bring water and a sack lunch.  The hike is limited to 16 people. It will be approximately 7 miles with an optional 4 mile extension.

Hiking Leaders:  Carol Brown and Sally Bassett

Brown County State Park is located in the center of the southern half of the state of Indiana. The park is by far the largest of 24 state parks in Indiana, and occupies 15,776 acres—making it one of the larger state parks in the United States. It is Indiana’s most visited state park, and has about 1.3 million visitors each year. Although Bloomington, Indiana, is the closest city, the park is closer to the small town of Nashville in Brown County. Brown County is named for General Jacob Brown, who fought in the War of 1812 and became Commanding General of the United States Army.

Mounds State Park – June 2022

Tuesday, June 7, 2022 at 9:30 am

Mounds State Park, located off I-69 east of Anderson, features 10 unique earthworks built by prehistoric Indians known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the Great Mound, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Archaeological surveys indicate the mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies, from where astronomical alignments could be viewed.

The hike is limited to 16 people and it will be approximately 5+ miles.  Meet in the parking lot at the administrative building right inside the park.  Be sure to bring water and a sack lunch.
